- INTRODUCTION
-
- This revolutionary multimedia product is designed to delight young and
- old alike. Specially designed to be simple and easy to use by young
- children, this product requires only one mouse button click to play
- both the audio and video segments. This makes it very easy,
- entertaining and educational for even the youngest child (or
- inexperienced adult).
-
- Using amazing new proprietary technology, this multimedia adventure
- incorporates big, full motion 256 color video, full featured sound and
- an awesome Windows-like graphical user interface (GUI). Yet this
- product runs on virtually any PC... in DOS! WINDOWS IS NOT REQUIRED.
- AN EXPENSIVE SOUND CARD IS NOT NEEDED. A CD-ROM DRIVE IS NOT NEEDED.
-
- In fact, just about any PC with a hard drive and a standard VGA
- graphics system will work. Faster PCs provide better results, but even
- slower PCs can create exciting multimedia effects by adjusting the
- configuration parameters found with the F1 key.
-
-
- USING MULTIMEDIA FOR EVERYONE
-
- After unzipping the download file, simply change to the subdirectory
- to which you unzipped the files, type SHARKS and press the ENTER key.
- Read the registration screen (absent in the registered version) and
- press any key.
-
- You will then enter a completely GUI environment and see the title
- screen with the pictures representing the thumb nail images of the
- audio/video segments. Simply single click the mouse on any one of the
- images to see the audio/video segment. You will then return to the
- main screen to select another audio/video segment.
-
- Although simple, this product is kid tested. We have found that young
- children love the repetitive sound and video, and adapt quickly to the
- very easy single mouse click access to the videos.
-
- To exit the system, click the exit icon found at the bottom of the
- main screen.

- NOTES
-
- No special install routine is required to run the shareware multimedia
- adventure (The registered version comes with installation
- instructions). However, you can fine tune the performance of the
- videos by pressing the F1 key after start up and setting the
- configuration options that best suit your PC.
-
- There are four configuration options. To change any of them, simply
- click on the recessed box containing the value you want to change. A
- cursor will appear. Type in the new value and press ENTER. The mouse
- cursor will reappear and you can click and change another value. Click
- on OK to accept your changes. Click CANCEL to cancel any changes.
- Click HELP for help.
-
- The configuration options are:
-
- 1) Frame Skip Rate: This is normally set to 1 (2 for the shareware
- version). You can speed up your videos by increasing this number. This
- increases the number of video frames skipped and makes your videos
- appear to advance faster
-
- 2) Frame Delay Rate: This is normally set to 0: On fast PCs you can
- slow down your videos by increasing this number.
-
- 3) Button Pause Rate: This value controls the time that a mouse button
- appears pushed down. It is useful on fast PCs where a button push may
- appear too fast. Increase this number to slow down the button
- response.
-
- 4) End of Video Pause: This value controls how long the video pauses
- when complete. Increase this number to pause the end of the video
- longer.
-
- The built in start up .BAT file is designed to work with virtually all
- PC systems. If, when running the software, you get an "Out of
- Environment Space" message from DOS, be sure to increase the
- environment space parameter for COMMAND.COM. See your DOS
- documentation for details.
-
- Most mice should work fine. Be sure that you have a 100% Microsoft
- compatible mouse and DOS mouse driver. The mouse driver must be loaded
- (if you run Windows, it has its own internal mouse driver which will
- not run this product) prior to running this product. In addition, some
- three button mice have a PC/MS switch. You should use the MS setting.
-
- For registered users: You can easily run this multimedia adventure
- from Windows. Since it is a complete Graphical User Interface product,
- it looks and feels much like Windows and flows seamlessly with
- Windows. A Windows .Pif file is included with the registered version
- to help you set this product up for Windows.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Compatibility: We have tested this software on a variety of PCs. We
- noticed on one PC that the videos may display flashing vertical lines
- and display pixels outside of the video frame. This was rare did not
- cause any problems or significantly effect performance.

- SHAREWARE CONCEPT
-
- This multimedia extravaganza is distributed under the shareware plan.
- If you use it, it is requested that you register your copy.
-
- Shareware allows you, the user, the opportunity to preview and test
- software to see if it meets your needs.
-
- We have tried hard to put together a quality product and we believe it
- to be competitive with the corresponding high priced, big company
- products.
-
- Please note, that in order to reduce the download size of this product
- to a reasonable size, the shareware version is reduced in size by
- eliminating some of the video segments and frames. These segments are
- clearly marked when played. When you register your product, you will,
- of course, receive all of the complete videos.
-

- DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
- Applies to shareware version only
-
- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
- buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
- are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
- some request registration while others require it, some specify a
- maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
- simple right to continue using the software to an updated program
- with printed manual.
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
- the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
- programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of
- comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
- ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
- author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
- software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
- example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
- disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
- find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
- commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
- easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead
- is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
- guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.
-
- THIS PRODUCT is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
- the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
- please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
- essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
- users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
- incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products.
-
- If you find this program useful and find that you are using THIS
- PRODUCT and continue to use THIS PRODUCT after a reasonable trial
- period, you must make a registration payment of $9.95 to Jonathan
- Cook. The $9.95 registration fee will license one copy for use on any
- one computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
- a book. An example is that this software may be used by any number of
- people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another,
- so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location
- while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
- different persons at the same time.
-
- Commercial users of THIS PRODUCT must register and pay for their
- copies of THIS PRODUCT within 30 days of first use or their license
- is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting
- Jonathan Cook.
-
- Anyone distributing THIS PRODUCT for any kind of remuneration must
- first contact Jonathan Cook at the address below for authorization.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- This authorization will be automatically granted to distributors
- recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for shareware
- distributors, and such distributors may begin offering THIS PRODUCT
- immediately (However Jonathan Cook must still be advised so that the
- distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of THIS
- PRODUCT.).
-
- You are encouraged to pass a copy of THIS PRODUCT along to your
- friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy
- if they find that they can use it. All registered users will receive
- a copy of the latest version of the THIS PRODUCT.
